Arlington Water kicks off A Dream in Every Drop mini poster contest (fortworthreport.org) — Arlington kids in kindergarten through 3rd grade can soon enter the A Dream in Every Drop mini-poster contest, celebrating how water supports their dreams. Starting Sept. 8, entries can be submitted via email or at Arlington libraries, River Legacy Nature Center, or the Water Utilities South Service Center, with winners earning prizes, plant tours, and City Council recognition.
   

2. Frank Miller - Dec. 17, 1930 - Aug. 29, 2026 (fortworthreport.org) — Longtime Arlington resident and country music entertainer Frankie Miller has died at 95, remembered for his hit "Blackland Farmer," his military service, and his deep devotion to family and faith. A deacon at University Baptist Church in Arlington, he will be honored at a Sept. 19 service in Fort Worth, with donations suggested to the Heart of Texas Country Music Museum.
   

3. Arlington Man Sentenced to Life for Murder Outside Shady Grove Car Wash (irvingweekly.com) — An Arlington man has been sentenced to life in prison for the 2024 shooting death of 20-year-old Zoin Hodges outside the Shady Grove Car Wash in Arlington. Jurors relied on ballistic and DNA evidence to link the defendant to shell casings and a cigar at the scene, following an investigation led by Arlington police and Tarrant County prosecutors.
   

4. Furuta Tallies Career-High 29 Digs as Flashes Open UTA Tournament (kentstatesports.com) — College volleyball fans in Arlington just hosted Kent State at the UTA Tournament, where junior libero Lesley Furuta racked up a career-high 29 digs despite the Golden Flashes dropping both Friday matches. The tournament continues in Arlington on Saturday as Kent State faces Sam Houston, giving local fans another chance to catch high-level NCAA volleyball in town.
