📰 News we're reading

1. Bellaire approves new police tasers and patrol vehicle replacements (communityimpact.com) — Bellaire City Council has approved a five-year, $225,000 contract for 43 upgraded TASER 10 devices and related training for the Bellaire Police Department, along with replacing two aging patrol vehicles. Both purchases are already built into the 2026-27 budget, aiming to modernize less-lethal tools, keep patrol cars reliable, and spread costs predictably over several years.

2. 5 new Greater Houston-area dining options to check out (communityimpact.com) — A new Whisk Matcha Bar has opened at 4001 Bellaire Blvd., bringing a Japanese-inspired, hand-whisked matcha and tea experience to nearby residents. It's one of several fresh dining options around Greater Houston, joining new Italian and dessert spots that expand choices for Bellaire-area diners looking for healthier, late-night, or upscale meals.

3. Hot classrooms, repeated complaints: HISD families demand lasting A/C fixes (arcpublishing.com) — Families across Houston ISD, including those with students at Bellaire High School, are speaking out about recurring air-conditioning failures that leave classrooms uncomfortably hot and disrupt learning. Parents and teachers describe months of complaints, temporary fixes, and poor communication, while union leaders blame aging systems and reduced maintenance staffing. District officials say they're monitoring conditions and investing in repairs but have not answered key questions about which schools are affected or long-term plans.

4. Crime victims can wait years for U visas. What happens when key witnesses face deportation? (click2houston.com) — A recent case involving a shooting in a Bellaire Home Depot parking lot highlights how undocumented crime witnesses can be detained by immigration officials even after helping police. Harris County prosecutors and immigration attorneys explain how long waits and shifting federal rules for U visas may discourage people from calling 911, complicating investigations across Greater Houston.
