Arrest Made In Connection To Cedar Park Carjacking

Police have a man in custody they believe was the person who forced a family out of their car at an HEB parking lot before fleeing.

CEDAR PARK, TX — Police on Thursday said an arrest has been made in connection to the carjacking that took place last weekend at an HEB parking lot.

Officials have been looking for the suspect who is said to have forced a family out of their vehicle at the HEB parking lot on 2800 E. Whitestone Blvd. before fleeing in the Mazda CX5 on July 7 at around 10 p.m. The family patriarch had gone inside the store, leaving his family behind in the car when the carjacking occurred, police said.

“Thanks to the help and reports of community citizens, a possible suspect has been located,” police said day in a prepared statement. “The man has been arrested on unrelated charges due to a warrant from another agency,” officials continued.

Possible Carjacking At Cedar Park HEB Reported

Earlier, police put out an advisory seeking help from the public in locating the suspect. Along with a description of the man, police included a stock image of the type of car that was taken. Police spokeswoman Alicia Inns told Patch the car was found abandoned in a neighboring city.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and no weapon was used.

Police are expected to identify the suspect once charges are formally filed. Inns noted the suspect in custody has not been charged with the carjacking but was picked up on an unrelated parole violation via another agency. Cedar Park police now are in the process of gathering evidence to charge the suspect with the recent carjacking.

"While our investigation continues, we are thankful for the quick action of the citizens in our community and the help from neighboring agencies that allowed us to find this man and get him off the streets," police said.
