Dispute Over Noise Leads To Fatal Cedar Park Shooting (Updated)

Dispute between neighbors over noise leaves Adam Shane Ladner, 41, dead from gunshot; Larry Wayne Smith, 64, charged with murder.

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — Cedar Park police have identified the victim and suspect related to a fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night, saying the violence erupted between neighbors over a dispute stemming from a noise complaint.

According to a police advisory issued Sunday afternoon, Adam Shane Ladner, 41, was shot at around 10:30 p.m. along the 1000 block of Savanna Lane. Larry Wayne Smith, 64, has been arrested and charged with murder, police added.

"Our investigation thus far reveals this was a dispute between neighbors concerning a noise complaint," police added. Further details were withheld pending the outcome of the police investigation, officials noted.

Leander ISD officials have since confirmed to media outlets that Ladner was a middle school girls athletics and PE coach at Running Brushy Middle School.

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — A man was killed in a Cedar Park shooting on Saturday night, police said.

The incident occurred at at around 11:30 p.m. along the 1000 block of Savanna Lane, according to the Cedar Park Police Department. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an adult male dead from an apparent gunshot wound, law enforcement officials said.

According to police, an unidentifed man was detained for questioning as part of their investigation. Police stressed "...there is no threat to the public." When police use such verbiage, it indicates the parties involved in the violence knew each other, and the violence was limited to their interaction.

Police provided no further details.

The incident marks the second fatal shooting in Cedar Park in one week's time. On Jan. 20, police were called to the Lakeline Villas Aparments at 2201 S. Lakeline Blvd., where a man was found dead from another gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as Austin Robert Burroughs, 22, an active airman who joined the Air Force in 2017 and earned several service medals during stint.

Police are currently seeking a suspect in the case, releasing a physical description of the assailant (see stories below):

In last week's shooting, a man and woman arrived by car at the apartment complex before the former was gunned down upon exiting the vehicle.

In a press advisory, police stressed the two shootings are not believed to be related: "This shooting investigation is not tied to the shooting investigation from last weekend at Lakeline Villas Apartments,"a police spokeswoman wrote in an email.
