Shots Fired At Cedar Park Police

Officers responded to 2904 Wren Circle amid reports of a suicidal person when a man fired multiple shots at them before his arrest.

CEDAR PARK, TEXAS — Police took a suspect into custody after he fired multiple shots at them following officers' arrival to a home amid reports of a suicidal person, a law enforcement officials said Tuesday.

The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. at 2904 Wren Circle near the intersection of Little Elm Trail and Chimney Swift Trail. The suspect, described as a white man in his 30s, ultimately surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody, Assistant Chief Mike Harmon told reporters after the incident.

The man began to fire at arriving officers from inside the home, Harmon said. One of the bullets shattered the windshield of a patrol vehicle, he added. One of the officers at the scene suffered a hand injury while taking evasive action to avoid being hit by gunfire, Harmon said. Other than that, no injuries were reported.

Often, officers are felled while conducting the most mundane of law enforcement tasks — executing search warrants, pulling motorists over for traffic infractions, checking on an individual's welfare and the like. Austin Police Department Chief Brian Manley posted a message on Twitter after the incident in Cedar Park, expressing relief none of the officers were harmed:
