Ex-Husband Of Missing League City Woman Admits To Her Murder

Authorities get positive ID on remains found in his garage as those of his ex-wife.

LEAGUE CITY, TX — The remains of a missing League City woman found in her ex-husband's garage last week have been positively identified as belonging to Anne-Christine Johnson.

Shaun Philip Hardy, who was arrested and charged with murder on Dec. 30 in connection with the death of Johnson, 30, has admitted to her murder, according to court documents.

According to court records, Hardy sobbed when police arrived at his home on Dec. 30 and found the body of a woman wrapped in plastic in his garage.

Hardy reportedly waived his rights, and spoke with investigators about the murder, telling them that Johnson had a knife and that he picked Johnson up and threw her to the ground.

According to the arrest affidavit, Johnson was bleeding from her head after he threw her to the ground. In addition, Hardy was pressing the knife blade to her chest, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Hardy told investigators that he kicked the knife hilt, driving the blade into her chest.

The knife wound did not immediately kill Johnson, and as she lay on the ground, gasping and coughing, Hardy told investigators that he covered her head with a plastic bag to put her out of her misery, according to court documents.

Hardy has been in the Galveston County Jail since his arrest on Friday, and had been a person of interest in the case since Johnson was reported missing by her family.

"He admitted he was the last person to see her. The totality of the circumstances made him our primary focus on the investigation up to this point," Officer Kelly Williamson told KPRC.

The couple had a volatile relationship that produced a son but ended in divorce in 2014.

In June 2015, Hardy and Johnson filed protective orders against one another, alleging a pattern of abuse.

Hardy is in the Galveston County Jail, and his bond is set at $1 million.
