Galveston Security Guard Shot 11 Times, Dies

Police believe the men who shot Philip Molis on April 9 are part of a criminal gang from Missouri City.

GALVESTON, TX -- A 23-year-old man who was shot 11 times on April 9 while working as an unarmed security guard at the San Luis Resort died on Sunday.

Philip Molis was conducting a security check of the parking lot at the hotel when he confronted three men who were acting suspicious around several parked cars.

Police said when Molis confronted the men, they shot him multiple times, and ran off.

The shooting sparked a manhunt in the area for several hours.

Police found Tyrone Davis Haines, 21, hiding not far from the shooting, and was arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

Police said they believe Haines and two others are members of the Gorilla Mob 187 gang out of Missouri City, and that all three men were involved in the shooting.

Police said while they were investigating the shooting, they found 10 vehicles that had been burglarized in the parking lot of the San Luis Resort.

Meanwhile a $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction on the case.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call Galveston County Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477.
