Texas City Commissioner Free On Bond After Fatal Accident
Dee Ann Haney, who was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter, admitted to smoking pot before crash: Police

GALVESTON, TX — A Texas City commissioner who was charged with intoxication manslaughter in the deaths of a 58-year old man and his 33-year old son early Monday allegedly admitted to police that she was smoking marijuana before the accident, officials said.
Dee Ann Haney, 54, as arrested and charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter after she she hit and killed Hong Le, and Duoc Le while they were pulled onto the shoulder of Interstate 45, trying to secure a load of plexiglass.

According to investigators, the two men were standing along side of a black Toyota Tacoma pickup near the Galveston Causeway at about 1:30 a.m., when Haney, who was driving a white Ford pickup, sideswiped both men.

Duoc Le and Hong Le, both died at the scene.
Haney was interviewed by law enforcement officers at the scene of the accident, and showed signs of impairment, KPRC reported.
According to an arrest affidavit, Haney admitted to investigators that she was smoking marijuana before the accident, KTRK reported.
As a condition of her bond, Haney is required to install a breathalyzer in her vehicle and is prohibited from going to bars, or any establishment that serves alcohol.
Haney has a long record of community services that includes elected office, as well as numerous committees and community organizations, and works as an occupational health and safety inspector at Texas A&M University-Galveston.
