Texas City Commissioner Indicted On 2 Counts Of Manslaughter

Dee Ann Haney was arrested on July 3 and charged in the deaths of Hong Phuc Le, 33, and his father, Van Duoc Le, 58.

TEXAS CITY, TX — A Texas City Commissioner charged in the July 2017 deaths of two men has been indicted by a Galveston County grand jury on 2 counts of manslaughter.

Dee Ann Haney was arrested on July 3 and charged in the deaths of Hong Phuc Le, 33, and his father, Van Duoc Le, 58.

The accident happened shortly after 1 a.m. on July 3 near the Galveston Causeway Bridge on Interstate 45 north.

Haney was driving north on I-45, when when investigators said she veered off the road, and hit the two men who'd stopped to adjust a load on their pickup on the side of the freeway.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Haney was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood draw, and allegedly admitted to DPS troopers that she’d smoked marijuana hours before the crash, KPRC reported.

Haney, who serves in an at-large position in Texas City, is one of several office holders who are up for re-election this weekend.
