Montgomery County Animal Shelter asks public for help fostering after air conditioning outage (click2houston.com) — Montgomery County Animal Shelter in Conroe urgently needs residents to foster up to 60 dogs while crews repair a broken air-conditioning system in two rooms. Staff say even a few days in a cool home can free critical kennel space and keep animals safe during the outage. Supplies are provided for temporary "Heat Wave Foster" homes, and sign‑ups are open now. 
2. C.E. King Drops 70 on Conroe in Season-Opening Blowout (texashsfootball.com) — Conroe High's football team took a tough 70-10 loss to C.E. King in its 2026 season opener, giving up 641 total yards. The Tigers will try to regroup quickly with a matchup against Morton Ranch, which is coming off a shutout win over Cypress Creek.
3. 'That's How We Get All The Ducks': Texas Taxidermist Busted Over Baited Pond Hunt (tampafp.com) — A Conroe resident has pleaded guilty to running an illegal duck-hunting guide service that used baited ponds at his Pull Two Ranch in Walker County. Federal wildlife agents documented corn scattered underwater near hunting blinds, and the longtime taxidermist now faces up to five years in prison and a substantial fine at his November sentencing.
4. Victor Salgado released from ICE custody after brother's fatal shooting (houstonchronicle.com) — An immigration detainee has been released from federal custody in Conroe after spending 54 days held at the Montgomery Processing Center following a fatal ICE shooting in Houston. His family and attorney say they'll keep pushing for answers and accountability as Harris County prosecutors prepare a grand jury review. The case continues to draw attention from local advocates and elected officials.
