Montgomery County Residents Slow Recovery From Harvey Continues

Reappraisal begin for homes and businesses damaged in Montgomery, The Woodlands

MONTGOMERY, TX — Residents in Montgomery whose homes or businesses were damaged during Hurricane Harvey will have their homes reappraised.

The Montgomery City Council approved a resolution in October to allow for some properties severely impacted to by the storm to be reappriased by the county appraisal district.

Hurricane Harvey, which made landfall near Rockport on Aug. 25, was a tropical storm by the time it began impacting areas of Montgomery County, north of the Houston area.

Montgomery County, which is not accustomed to tropical storms, received 30 inches of rain in some areas, and caused damage to thousands of homes from severe flooding.

However, some homes and businesses in The Woodlands and Magnolia, saw significantly more damage from flooding of nearby creeks.

Since early September, the Montgomery County Appraisal District have been slowly reappraising some homes and have examined more than 2,700 homes that were impacted by flooding or other damages from Harvey, the Conroe Courier reported.

Meanwhile, two new disaster recovery centers have opened in Montgomery County to provide support for homeowners and businesses, KPRC reported.
