The Learning Experience in Magnolia will bring together neighboring communities to raise awareness and donations for nine-year-old, Brayden Russell, son of Mrs. Nina Russell, an infant teacher at The Learning Experience, who suffers from chronic kidney disease and is in need of a transplant.

The event will feature numerous booths in the center’s parking lot with boutique items for sale, a silent auction that will include donated baskets from families and friends in the community, as well as refreshments on sale. All proceeds will be going directly to the Russell family.

“Beyond the emphasis placed on academics, we pride ourselves in instilling in our children the meaning of truly being selfless and helping those in need,” said Cori Carter, Business Manager of The Learning Experience in Magnolia. “This event means a great deal to The Learning Experience family. Beyond the importance of raising funds for the Russell’s, this event also serves as an opportunity to show the children at The Learning Experience a real-life example of the importance of philanthropy and the impact that it can have in the lives of others.”

Because of Brayden’s small, dysplastic kidneys, he takes daily medications and has behavioral difficulties.

Brayden’s medical team at Texas Children’s Hospital anticipates that he will receive a living donor renal transplant which will be followed by being hospitalized for approximately two weeks after which he will remain at home for an additional 6-8 weeks to recover.

With the help of Grace The Greyhound and Charity Chihuahua, the lovable and huggable dog mascots for philanthropy at The Learning Experience, the philanthropy curriculum helps teach children that it is not how big or small you are, it is the size of your heart that matters.

Through animation, classroom activities and participatory songs, Grace and Charity introduce children to topics like the value of helping others, volunteering and donating.
