Montgomery County Food Bank Participates in 'Souper Bowl of Caring'

Now, through Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 5, participating grocery stores will collect donations at the registers in Montgomery County.

CONROE, TX -- Montgomery County Food Bank is excited to participate in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide event to collect food and funds to feed the hungry. Now, through Super Bowl Sunday on February 5th, participating grocery stores will collect donations at the registers, individuals, families and businesses will conduct food drives, and hundreds of volunteers will work throughout the community encouraging the effort. Last year, this event generated more than 354,865 meals for neighbors in need in Montgomery County. Souper Bowl of Caring officially kicks off on Wednesday, January 18th, with a live broadcast from NRG Stadium.

There are four impactful ways to join the team and “tackle hunger” with Souper Bowl of Caring 2017:

  • Shop: Visit local participating grocery retailers and donate via register pull tab or by purchasing a “hunger bag” of non-perishable food.
  • Volunteer: Be an MCFB Ambassador at participating grocery stores to encourage donations!
  • Donate: Contribute to our Souper Bowl of Caring Virtual Food Drive online.
  • Host: Organize your own Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive at your place of business, education or worship!

All donations received through participating Montgomery County grocers, as well as those received online, will support Montgomery County Food Bank to feed the estimated 85,000 food-insecure residents of Montgomery County. In addition to the in-person collection locations, residents can donate to Souper Bowl of Caring online or volunteer to help with the collection effort. Details for both opportunities can be found on the MCFB website.

Through the Food Bank’s partnerships with Feeding America and area retailers, a single dollar can be leveraged to provide 3.5 meals, or an entire day’s worth of food for one person, including breakfast, lunch, dinner and a snack.

“The energy surrounding Super Bowl LI is palpable”, says Carolyn Donovan, Chief Development Officer of Montgomery County Food Bank. She continues, “It’s wonderful to see this excitement translate into a desire to raise awareness of the thousands of Montgomery County residents who struggle to regularly put food on their family’s table. The generous hearts of our volunteers and donors within the community raised over $101,390 during Souper Bowl of Caring last year. We look forward to another successful event in 2017, enabling the Food Bank to reach even more of our neighbors throughout Montgomery County.”
