No Mask Mandate Coming For Schools: Gov. Abbott

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reiterated Tuesday that he will not issue a mask mandate for schools as children return from summer break, according to a report from the Texas Tribune.

As the delta variant spreads, several pandemic indicators have risen, including the positivity rate, which sits at 10 percent.

Abbott previously issued an executive order on May 18 prohibiting public schools and government entities from requiring masks.

Montgomery County schools were already in line with the executive order or were in the process of transitioning to no masks required when Abbott issued it.
