1. Have old medications at home? Nueces County opens 2 prescription drug drop-off sites (kiiitv.com) — Corpus Christi and Nueces County residents will soon have two safe, anonymous options to clear out old or unwanted medications during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Oct. 24. You can drop off pills for free at the Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District on Horne Road or at the CVS in Robstown. Liquids must stay in tightly sealed original containers; needles and illegal drugs aren't accepted.
   

2. The Texas Bluesmen bring their Blues Brothers experience to Corpus Christi to benefit The Ritz Theater (kristv.com) — Corpus Christi music fans can catch The Texas Bluesmen live on Oct. 9 at Bar Under the Sun, with proceeds supporting the historic Ritz Theater downtown. The fully costumed Blues Brothers tribute includes photo ops with replica Bluesmobiles and a special appearance by original band member Tom "Bones" Malone. Tickets and optional meet-and-greet upgrades are on sale now.
   

3. Annaville Fire (ESD#1) seeks sales tax increase to fund new fire stations (kiiitv.com) — Emergency Services District 1, which serves areas around Corpus Christi including the growing London community, is asking voters to approve a sales tax increase to fund new fire stations and ambulances. Officials stress that property taxes would not rise, and say the money would expand coverage as call volumes and development surge across western Nueces County.
   

4. Mosaic Art Classes Corpus Christi Tickets (feverup.com) — Corpus Christi creatives can spend December 19 crafting a Turkish mosaic lamp at the Hilton Garden Inn on South Padre Island Drive. In this 2.5-hour, family-friendly workshop, participants ages 8 and up learn traditional techniques, arrange colorful glass, sip Turkish tea, and leave with a finished lamp. All materials are provided and tickets are available now.
   

5. Rio Grande City man convicted for transporting illegal aliens in cattle trailer (justice.gov) — A 28-year-old Corpus Christi resident has been convicted in federal court of transporting eight undocumented people in a cattle trailer after being stopped at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint. Jurors heard evidence tying him and his wife to the trailer purchase and prior crossings, and a judge in Corpus Christi will sentence him in January, with a possible 20-year prison term.
