10 Things To Do In Dallas This Weekend
On the hunt for weekend entertainment? We've chosen ten events ranging from fishing competitions to ballet shows that we think you'll like.

DALLAS, TX — Looking for something fun to do in Dallas on the weekend of Jan. 20? We've compiled a list of 10 events we think will be worth checking out. As an added plus, temperatures in Dallas are expected to peak at 68 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday. Use this weekend as a chance to get out and enjoy the long sought-after warm weather.
1. Jurassic Quest at Fair Park
- Jan. 20 to 21
- 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- Take a trip to Fair Park and explore Jurassic Quest’s ultra-realistic, life-size animatronic dinosaurs. Over 80 dinosaurs are on display including some that walk a few available to ride! Visitors of all ages can go on T-Rex and Triceratops fossil digs, enjoy the “Dino Bounce” area with inflatable mazes, transform into an allosaurus with face painting, get creative at Dino crafts plus delight in learning more about these ancient creatures.

- Learn the basics or get more creative with your current swing skills! Grab your sewing machine, supplies and lunch and head to Walnut Hill Recreation (10011 Midway Road, Dallas) for a day of hemming, basting and seaming. Project Sew is free with a park and recreation annual membership card available at any City of Dallas recreation center.
3. Let's Go Fishing at Bitter Creek Pond
- Jan. 20
- 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
- Do you have what it takes to be a champion? Compete against other anglers at the annual Youth Fishing Derby at Bitter Creek Pond, 940 Woodgreen Dr. Fishing is free and open to anglers who register at dallasparks.org.

- Now to Feb. 3
- 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- If you've never been to the Fort Worth Livestock Show & Rodeo, you're missing out on one of North Texas' most notable events. The Show runs until Feb. 3, but we put it on this week's roundup to give you some notice. While you're there, pet a cow and eat one of the lauded cinnamon rolls, which you'll find are larger than your hand. Adults get in for $10, and children cost even less.
5. Mourning a President — Exhibit on the funeral of John F. Kennedy
- 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily through Feb. 19
- One of the most visited historic sites in Texas, The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is featuring a must-see special temporary exhibit this season. Focused on the November 25, 1963 funeral and burial of President John F. Kennedy, "Mourning A President" explores how a grieving nation paid its respects and the elaborate plans of the country's most momentous funeral since Abraham Lincoln's.
6. Crossroads: Exploring the Sounds Between by Dallas Chamber Symphony
- Saturday, Jan. 20 at 8:00 p.m. at Moody Performance Hall
- The concert, made possible by The Arts Community Alliance (TACA), Bowdon and Embrey Family Foundations Artist Residency Fund, City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs and National Endowment for the Arts, features Composer-in-residence Dr. Douglas Buchanan who unites the musical talent of the Dallas Chamber Symphony. The symphony is led by Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Richard McKay and the Dallas Street Choir led by Founder and Director Dr. Jonathan Palant.
7. "The Gazebo" at MainStage Irving-Las Colinas
- Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
- A tale of blackmail and murder, this stage play engrosses viewers with a crime writer turned criminal.
- Globe Life Park in Arlington
- Jan. 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Fan Fest, presented by Dasani, offers autograph sessions from top players, tours of the clubhouse, and question and answer sessions with coaches.
9. Music Hall at Fair Park presents Shen Yun
- Jan. 20 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
- Jan. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
- Music Hall at Fair Park
- Take a trip back to Ancient China, known as the Land of the Divine, to experience the lost civilization on the stage of Music Hall at Fair Park.
10."Freedom Riders" at Irving Arts Center
- Jan. 21 at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
- Admission is free
- Irving Parks and Recreation and Irving Arts Center present "Freedom Riders," a new play from Mad River Theater Works. Performances are first come, first serve. The performance takes a look at historical figures affecting change through non-violent protests.
