Dallas, Texas - In an effort to enhance the urban green cover, the city of Dallas has opened registrations for its fifth annual "Branch Out Dallas" program, organized by the Dallas Forestry Team.

The registration window runs from September 5 to September 30. Homeowners within Dallas can sign up online to receive a complimentary 5-gallon tree, which will be distributed on Dallas Arbor Day, scheduled for November 4th.

As per the city's official statement, the forestry department is prepared to provide approximately 2,500 young trees for this year's program. Registrants can choose from six native tree species: bur oak, sycamore, Mexican plum, American elm, shumard oak, and lacebark elm.

"Trees reduce the amount of stormwater runoff to drainage systems, help cool temperatures, improve air quality and mitigate the heat island effect," stated Standifer.

Only genuine homeowners in the Dallas area are eligible to apply. To ensure a fair distribution, each household is restricted to one tree.

On November 4, between 9 a.m. and noon, the trees will be made available at six designated locations throughout Dallas: Bishop Lynch High School at 9750 Ferguson Road; Cristo Rey Dallas College Prep at 9701 San Leon Ave; St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic School at 4019 S. Hampton Road; Tyler Street Church at 927 W. 10th St.; Marsh Lane Baptist Church at 10716 Marsh Lane; and June Shelton School at 17301 Preston Road.
