Dallas Public Library: A Stadium Remembered

Burk Murchison….Son of Clint Murchison, Jr., founder of the Dallas Cowboys, who went on to design and develop of Texas Stadium.

Texas Stadium began its life with the Cowboys in victory over New England on October 24, 1971 with a score of 44-21 in front of a crowd of over 65,000 people, according to the Dallas Morning News.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Texas Stadium, and to celebrate, the Dallas Public Library will be hosting a panel discussion, Celebrate Texas Stadium: A 50th Anniversary Virtual Roundtable, Featuring the Voice of the Dallas Cowboys, Brad Sham and Cowboy Greats Cliff Harris and Charlie Waters, Plus Many More on Saturday August 14 at 2 p.m.

Michael Granberry…. Arts and feature writer of the Dallas Morning news and co-author of the much-anticipated book on Texas Stadium: Hole in the Roof: The Dallas Cowboys, Clint Murchison Jr., and The Stadium that Changed American Sports Forever. Granberry will also serve as Moderator of the panel discussion.

Burk Murchison….Son of Clint Murchison, Jr., founder of the Dallas Cowboys, who went on to design and develop of Texas Stadium. Burk is also a co-author with Granberry of Hole in the Roof.

Joe Bailey….Former Dallas Cowboys executive from the Murchison era.

Pat Magill….Former Texas Stadium architect.

Herbert Gears….Former Mayor of the City of Irving (2005-2011).
