Donald Trump Jr.'s Obama Cake: Dallas Restaurant Owner Speaks Out
"We at Le Bilboquet feel betrayed and sad," the owner wrote on Facebook, referencing the photo Trump Jr. posted from the Dallas restaurant.

DALLAS, TX — The owner of Le Bilboquet in Dallas apologized Monday for controversial photos Donald Trump Jr. shared from the restaurant the day before. The pictures, which Trump posted on his Instagram account, featured him and Texas senator Ted Cruz posing with a cake that bore Barack Obama's face while celebrating a friend's birthday in the restaurant.
The post read: "With friends like these... some good friends decided that while my birthday is not for 2 weeks that they would get me an early 40th birthday cake. And what birthday is complete without an Obama cake? I figured it was so good that I would have to share it with Ted."
The post drew immense backlash on social media, and some social media users even called for a boycott of the restaurant. But Stephan Courseau, the owner of Le Bilboquet Dallas, clarified in a Facebook post Monday that the cake was not made at the restaurant.

"Both Donald Trump Jr. and Ted Cruz were attending a birthday celebration of one of our regular patrons who rented out our venue for a private event.
The party was not for either one of them nor was it any kind of partisan rally. Unfortunately, I was not working yesterday and could not intervene in the unfortunate circumstances that unfolded but I believe I owe you an explanation and an apology.
Someone that attended the party brought in an outside cake for Donald Trump Jr.’s upcoming birthday and we are not sure who that was. Both Donald Trump Jr. and Ted Cruz took pictures with the cake and posted on social media outlets."
Courseau stated in the post that he is French and his wife is Mexican, and that the couple rejects the potentially divisive message of the cake.
"On a personal note, I am French and my wife is Mexican," he wrote. "We both believe in universal values of love, respect and tolerance. Values that we have found within the Dallas community. Our friends and patrons represent a wide spectrum of American beliefs including: Republicans, Democrats, and Independents. What brings them together is the same belief that we can live together with love, respect and tolerance. I made America my home a long time ago because of these values that embody the real American dream."

Courseau's post seemed to restore some people's opinions of the restaurant, and one Facebook user lauded it.
"I have always been a fan of Le Bilboquet Dallas, now I'm an even bigger one. By the way, if you've never been, go (my fave on the menu is their cajun chicken)!" Kimberly Alexander wrote on her Facebook page.
Le Bilboquet Dallas was among OpenTable's 100-best restaurants for 2017.
As of Tuesday morning, Le Bilboquet's Facebook page could not be found. A call was made to the restaurant, but the manager on duty had no comment.
