Keller - The North Texas education sector continues to experience a series of executive transitions, with yet another high-ranking official opting to relinquish their position, Dallas Metro News reported.

Superintendent Rick Westfall, a well-regarded leader who has headed the Keller Independent School District since 2017, disclosed his retirement plans, set to be effective by the end of 2023. His intentions were communicated through an email sent to the district, detailing his plan to receive formal approval from the district's board of trustees prior to his official retirement.

Before becoming the Keller ISD Superintendent, Westfall spent many years in the educational field, honing his leadership skills. His experience includes a productive six-year stint as the Deputy Superintendent at Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Moreover, he distinguished himself as principal of Keller High School from 2008 to 2011. In total, Westfall has dedicated nine combined years to serving the Keller ISD community.

While Westfall's upcoming retirement signals a significant shift, he is determined to ensure a seamless transition of power. His email mentioned his commitment to maintain his Superintendent responsibilities on Keller ISD's roster until 2023 concludes, thereby assisting in the leadership changeover.

"I am making this announcement now to allow our Board of Trustees time to begin the selection process of a new Superintendent," Westfall wrote in his email to Keller ISD parents, as reported by WFAA.

His impending retirement will officially be discussed at the next Keller ISD Board meeting, which is slated for this coming Monday.

"Deciding to retire at this time was definitely a difficult decision, but one that I ultimately felt was best after much prayer and consultation with my family," Westfall wrote in his email to Keller ISD parents.

As the Superintendent of Keller ISD, Rick Westfall has achieved numerous noteworthy successes during his tenure. These include pioneering a $315 million bond proposal and, as noted in his online bio, leading the District Visioning process. This initiative sought the input of thousands of stakeholders, which resulted in a reevaluation and realignment of Keller ISD's core values.

"Keller ISD is a truly exceptional school district, and the credit for its outstanding reputation lies not only with our fantastic students and supportive families, but with our dedicated and caring teachers and staff," Westfall said in his email. "I feel blessed to have had this opportunity to lead such an amazing District and work alongside so many talented educators who daily live out our mission to educate students to achieve, inspire them to dream, and challenge them to grow so that they are prepared to be productive members of the community in which they learn, live, and work."

The past year marked substantial changes within the Keller Independent School District. This past Monday evening saw the adoption of a new policy framework providing a novel approach to evaluating materials for use within school libraries. In addition, the district's board ratified a policy that enhances security measures, empowering educators and staff members with the privilege of carrying firearms within the school environment.
