Texas Winter Weather: 70,000 Texans Lose Power Thursday

The most significant power outages are northwest of Dallas as Winter Storm Landon passes through Texas on Thursday.

TEXAS — Approximately 70,000 Texan households were without power Thursday morning as Winter Storm Landon passes through the state, according to poweroutage.us.

Just before noon Thursday, that number was at just above 67,000 without power, according to the outage tracking website.

Many of the power outages are concentrated north and northwest of Dallas. In Hunt County, about 7,500 customers are without power out of nearly 40,000 tracked, while in nearby Delta County, about 500 of only 3,000 customers are experiencing outages.

Collin County has over 8,000 households without power, and other Dallas area counties that had significant outages Thursday include Dallas, Tarrant, Lamar and Rockwall. The snow and ice also has affected travel in the area with more than 1,000 flights canceled at Dallas airports.

Runnels County, just northwest of San Angelo, also was hit hard with about 1,800 of 5,000 customers losing power.

The San Antonio area has the most total outages with over 26,000 Bexar County customers out of over 870,000 experiencing outages.
