TRACS Summit: Dallas College Hosts Event Exploring Hope For The Future

(DALLAS) — Dallas College is proud to host the 2021
Texas Regional Alliance for Campus Sustainability (TRACS) Summit, bringing together students, faculty, staff and experts to advance sustainability in higher education in Texas Nov. 8-9.

The theme of this year’s virtual summit is “Hope for the Future.“ It will provide educational opportunities for students, faculty, staff and community members on five specific Sustainable Development Goals that address hunger, health, education, inequality and climate change.

This year’s keynote speaker is Boston Globe editorial page editor and journalist Bina Venkataraman, author of “The Optimist’s Telescope: Thinking Ahead in a Reckless Age.” A thought leader on topics such as social progress and environmental change, she has a reputation for giving life-changing talks. Venkataraman served as an advisor in the Obama White House and taught at MIT. She will open the summit at 9 a.m., Nov. 8.

Among other speakers and panelists are representatives from colleges and universities across the state as well as industry and civic leaders. The TRACS Summit follows Dallas College’s
Sustainability Summit, to be held Friday, Nov. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Dallas College is committed to providing no- or low-cost sustainability education to its students, staff and community,” said Georgeann Moss, senior director of the Dallas College Office of Sustainability. “These two events were intentionally scheduled back to back to allow us to keep the momentum going. This is the first year the TRACS Summit is virtual, allowing people across the state of Texas to attend. Both events are admission-free, thanks to our generous sponsors.”
