Irving Teens Arrested In Christmas Eve Homicide Of 17-Year-Old

Two suspects, ages 18 and 19, face Capital Murder charges for the shooting that left a 17-year-old dead during a marijuana deal gone wrong.

IRVING, TX — A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection to a Christmas Eve shooting that left 17-year-old Brett Adkins, of Plano, dead in the 200 block of Red River Trail in Irving.

Areon Trevon McDade (pictured above, left) was arrested early Monday and is being held in the Irving Jail on a charge of Capital Murder. Another suspect, 18-year-old Demarcus Antwon Williams (pictured above, right), was arrested Jan. 5 in connection to the same homicide. He also faces a charge of Capital Murder.

According to an affidavit from Irving police, Adkins met the two suspects at the Tom Landry Elementary School in Irving for a marijuana deal. One suspect entered Adkins' car and sat in the back seat while another stood outside the driver's door.

The affidavit alleges that after Adkins showed the suspects the marijuana, the one standing outside brandished a gun and demanded Adkins "just give me it all." The suspect then opened Adkins' front door and Adkins and the other suspect both exited the car.

A fight ensued, and Adkins was shot in the chest. While fleeing, a suspect dropped a black iPhone which was later recovered by investigators, the affidavit claims. Evidence taken from the phone was used to identify McDade.

Williams was arrested after he was identified through witness testimony and video surveillance footage, the affidavit states.

Adkins, a student at Plano West High School, was taken to Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, where he was pronounced dead.
