Weir's Furniture Closing After 78 Years

Products will be on sale at up to 30% off until all the merchandise is sold

After 78 years in business, Dallas-based Weir's Furniture is closing all four of its North Texas locations, a going-out-of-business sale that launched March 26 and will run until the shelves are bare. "This was an extremely difficult decision, but closing now enables us to honor J. Ray and Bea's legacy by finishing well and taking care of our employees," said board chairman Al Boulden.

Products will be on sale at up to 30% off until all the merchandise is sold. Online sales will end concurrently with the physical store closing.

Founded in 1948 when J. Ray and Bea Weir opened a single storefront—with a famous candy and popcorn—on Knox Street, the company grew into four locations across Dallas, Plano, Southlake, and Farmers Branch. Leadership stayed in the family for decades — son Dan Weir took over in 1972, nephew Mark Moore became CEO in 2003. "We've built generational relationships with both customers and employees," Moore said. "Your friendships, encouragement, and faith in our team have truly defined us."

About 135 employees are affected, roughly a third of whom have worked at Weir's for more than 20 years. A company spokesperson cited a combination of tariff pressures, difficult market conditions, and rising operational costs, telling CandysDirt.com: "It is a combination of factors, not any one key factor."
