6 Austin-Area Shootings Reported In 24-Hour Period

As storms gathered Friday, a series of shootings kept police and medics scrambling to assist and investigate.

AUSTIN, TX — Multiple shootings in a 24-hour period across the Austin area kept emergency personnel especially busy this weekend.

The most recent shooting occurring just before 10 a.m. on Saturday left a man dead. Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1100 block of Reinli Street where an adult was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Austin-Travis County EMS. The approximate age and gender of the deceased shooting victim was not disclosed.

According to local media reports, three people have been detained in connection with the East Austin shooting.

The incident was preceded by other shootings on Friday that resulted in varying degrees of injuries. Just before midnight on Friday, medics said a woman sustained critical, life-threatening injuries after a shooting that took place at the 1190 block of Airport Boulevard. No further details were provided.

Two hours before that incident, medics were called to the 800 block of Prairie Trail amid reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. Details were not forthcoming.

Just after 7:20 p.m. on Friday medics rushed to the 7800 block of Wynee Lane for medical treatment of a gunshot wound victim. The extent of the patient's injuries was unknown.

In the aftermath of another shooting around 1 a.m. on Saturday, police are seeking to question two Hispanic men who dropped off a gunshot victim to the emergency room of an area hospital after a shooting along the 4900 block of Mueller Boulevard. Police noted the patient remained in critical condition after being transported to the hospital.

In the nearby city of Hutto in Williamson County, police continue to search for a pair of suspects after shots were fired into a car during an attempted robbery. The incident occurred at an HEB fueling station along Gattis School Road at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The crime victim sustained scratches during the incident, police said, but was not injured by gunfire.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office has since released surveillance camera images of the suspects in the hopes someone might recognize them and alert as to their whereabouts.

On Monday, the Austin Police Department said it would stage a 4 p.m. press conference at their headquarters to discuss the rash of shootings that occurred this past weekend. Patch will monitor the press briefing, and follow up with more details.
