Car2Go To Lay Off Nearly 50 Austin Workers
In a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission, car-sharing firm said 47 employees at its office on 901 E. 6th St. would be let go.
AUSTIN, TX — The car-sharing company Car2Go reported it would lay off nearly 50 of its workers in Austin starting early next year.
The company reported the layoffs affecting 47 employees to the Texas Workforce Commission. The notice was given under provisions of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act compelling employers to provide workers a 60-day advance of job cuts. Patch formally requested related correspondence filed with the state agency explaining the cuts.
"While it does not believe it is under a legal obligation to do so, out of an abundance of caution this Notice is being submitted to you and the other parties required to be notified, as reflected below, under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN), to the extent applicable," the company's Dec. 30 letter to regulators began before advising of layoffs to occur at the company's base at 901 E. 6th.

Company officials said the layoffs would be staggered, with the first round starting on March 6 and the remainder on April 3, April 10 and in either May, June or July of this year. Texas Workforce Commission officials redacted the portion of the letter detailing job descriptions of affected workers.
Company officials noted none of the affected workers is represented by a union. The reason for the cuts was not specified.
