AUSTIN, TX — The Texas Governor's Mansion in downtown Austin was bathed in blue light on Saturday night in tribute to health care workers on the front lines of the coronavirus fight.

Earlier in the week, landmarks across the U.S. illuminated their historic landmarks — including the Space Needle in Seattle and Niagara Falls — in similar tribute. Closer to home, the Round Rock water tower was suffused in blue light on Wednesday as drone-aided aerial footage dramatically illustrated.

The mass lightings were part of the #LightItBlue campaign. Here's what the water tower looked like north of Austin:

"The State of Texas is forever grateful for the committed health care workers serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response," Abbot said. "Their sacrifice and hard work cannot be overstated, and they play a crucial role in ensuring their fellow Texans have the care and support they need during this challenging time. I ask that all Texans join me and Cecilia in praying for these heroic Texans."

The governor's office shared photos of the blue governor's mansion, including an aerial shot showing the historic edifice serving as makeshift canvas for the homage:

The historic home has served as the official residence of Texas governors and their families since 1856, according to a state page. It is the fourth-oldest continuously occupied governor’s residence in the country, and the oldest governor’s mansion west of the Mississippi River.
