Round Rock Water Tower Was Canvas In 1st Responder Tribute
Along with landmarks all over the U.S. this week, the city's landmark water tower was bathed in blue light to honor essential workers.
ROUND ROCK, TX β Round Rock officials this week did their part in honoring essential workers on the frontlines of the war against coronavirus, bathing the city's landmark water tower in blue light in tribute.
"Tonight, the Round Rock Water Tower has been lit in blue to honor all of our healthcare workers, first responders and essential workers who are on the front lines battling COVID-19," officials wrote on Wednesday, referring the virus that causes respiratory illness. "Tonight, we celebrate you all, and weβre sending out a heartfelt thanks from the City of Round Rock and all of our Round Rock residents!"
City officials shared the hashtags #lightitblue and #makeitblue in a week that saw multiple landmarks across the U.S. similarly altered in homage to first responders. As part of the #LightItBlue campaign, landmarks from the Space Needle in Seattle to Niagara Falls straddling New York and Canada were all suffused with azure lighting to recognize first responders.

Drone video taken by Round Rock Parks and Rec lent added dramatic scope to the scene, as the device filmed the illuminated tower from different angles. The blue tower was shared on social media platforms:

On Saturday, the governor's mansion joined in the illuminated tribute as the historic site was covered in blue light in similar tribute to health care workers in Texas.

"The State of Texas is forever grateful for the committed health care workers serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response," Abbott said in a prepared statement. "Their sacrifice and hard work cannot be overstated, and they play a crucial role in ensuring their fellow Texans have the care and support they need during this challenging time. I ask that all Texans join me and Cecilia in praying for these heroic Texans."
