Coronavirus: Travis County Illness Count 3,124, 1 New Death
The number of cases of the new coronavirus illness rose to 3,124 on Thursday as 67 more diagnoses emerged from the previous day.
AUSTIN, TX — The number of cases of the coronavirus across Travis County on Thursday grew by 67 in a 24-hour period, bringing the total level to 3,124 since records have been kept. One new death was reported in the same time span, bringing the total fatality count is 92.
The uptick comes one day after the regional illness count topped 3,000. On Wednesday, the total number of respiratory illness cases to date rose to 3,057 —73 more than the previous day. In addition, three new deaths were reported from the previous day.

Increased illness rates come at a time when businesses in Texas are reopening at a brisk pace as directed by Gov. Greg Abbott. Previously, a number of businesses — bars, restaurants, malls, bowling alleys, barbershops and hair salons among them — were allowed to open at partial capacity by gubernatorial executive order.

On Tuesday, the governor added water parks to the list of businesses given the okay to start reopening, along with food courts located within shopping malls.

On Thursday, city and county officials highlighted hospitalization rates as a key metric in assessing when a full opening of the local economy might occur. For that to happen, 20 or fewer hospitalizations per day must be maintained on a consistent, prolonged basis, officials said.

AUSTIN, TX — The number of cases of the new coronavirus illness topped 3,000 on Wednesday — rising to 3,057, which is 73 more than the previous day. In addition, three new deaths in the previous 24-hour period were reported.
The number of new cases reported on Wednesday exceeded the 51-patient increase reported the prior day, when another three new deaths were reported. The illness uptick is documented on a statistical dashboard updated daily by Austin Public Health officials.
On the statistical dashboard, health officials also reported 1,084 people have recovered after contracting the virus.
