Flash Flood Warning For Travis, Williamson Counties

As record breaking rains continue to pound the Austin area, the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Travis and Williamson counties that remains in effect till 11:15 a.m.

The NWS predicts additional rainfall totals of 1-2 inches.

According to NWS, Austin’s Camp Mabry received 2.63 inches of rain, a new record. The old daily rainfall record was 1.94 inches in 1949. The heaviest rains were forecast for late Friday night and Saturday afternoon but the rain threat is expected to shift east by Sunday.

Officials warn residents to drive safely. Remember, it is illegal to drive around barricades at a flooded low water crossing.

Cedar Park: 7.65 inches

Leander: 4.98 inches

Round Rock: 5.18 inches

Bergstrom International Airport: 3.2 inches

North Austin: 6.66 inches

The Lower Colorado River Authority activated floodgate operations on the Tom Miller Dam around 6 a.m. to release water from Lake Austin. Despite the weather, the Texas-Kansas football game is still on.
