Gov's Got His Giddy-up: Rick Perry Hints He'll Join Donald Trump Administration

He tweeted out a picture of himself getting a telephone call from the president-elect he once called a "cancer on conservatism."

AUSTIN, TX — The dust has yet to settle from Tuesday's election, but former Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday hinted he would be open to accepting a role in a Donald Trump administration while suggesting he's already got a call to serve.

“Just got a call to #makeamericagreatagain Saddle up & ride, bro!!,” Perry wrote on Twitter and Instagram, accompanying his post with a photo of himself being handed a pay phone by former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, a close friend of his.

The chumminess between Perry and Trump is quite a turnaround. During the heated primary elections during which the former governor also ran for president before dropping out of the race, Perry called Trump "a cancer on conservatism" and a "barking carnival act."

It was during the 2011 primaries when he first ran for president that Perry rose to national prominence. During a GOP debate in Detroit, he famously had an "oops" moment when he began to enumerate the three federal agencies he'd abolish as president but struggled to remember the third one.

Perry gained further national fame (some might say infamy) during his turn on the show "Dancing With The Stars" before being eliminated in the early rounds. He lost to fellow Texan Vanilla Ice on the dance competition during a key round.

Before his failed runs for the presidency and for the dancing prize, Perry, 66, was the longest-running governor of Texas. He served as the state's 47th governor from December 2000 to January 2015.
