Winning $16 Million Lotto Texas Ticket Sold In Belton, Texas

After weeks of no one hitting the jackpot, all six numbers are matched at Longhorn Drive-In Grocery store in Bell County.

AUSTIN, TX — After several weeks of Lotto Texas drawings without a winner, a single winner in Belton, Texas, matched all six numbers for a $16 million prize.

The winning ticket was sold at the Longhorn Drive-In Grocery store located at 2218 Holland Rd. in Bell County. The county seat, Belton (population about 15,000) is not far from Austin, and is part of the Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood metropolitan statistical area. It's just an hour to the north of Austin some 60 miles away from the capital city.

According to Texas Lottery Commission officials, the winner opted for the cash value option by taking a lump sum rather than being paid in annual annuities. The winning numbers for Aug. 11, 2018, were: 3-9-13-25-30-51.

Whoever the lucky winner is in Belton, he or she joins a fellow winner in Lotto Texas winner in Houston in millionaire status. Choosing to remain anonymous, the Houston winner in June claimed the prize after buying the winning ticket for the May 16 drawing — a ticket valued at $20.25 million from which the winner chose the cash value lump sump of $20.3 million.

And last month, a resident of Howe, Texas, in Grayson County bought a winning Powerball ticket on June 20 that matched five numbers but without the key red one. Still, the five matched numbers were good enough to land the anonymous winner a $2 million prize, according to the Texas Lottery Commission.

The town of Howe, population some 3,000 residents, is just outside Dallas and 250 miles north of Austin.

You might have heard that — after nearly a month and a half of rolled-over jackpots — a single player in California claimed the massive $425.3 million Powerball jackpot prize. The winner, B. Raymond Buxton, reportedly bought his winning ticket wearing a shirt emblazoned with an image of Yoda that read: "Luck of the Jedi I have."

Resent this person mightily, we do. Um, what we mean to say is: Happy for this man, we are.

Buxton, a Northern California retiree, told California Lottery Commission officials that he has his stomach to thank for the win. He was getting lunch at a Subway sandwich shop, which is located inside the convenience store at Dixon Landing Chevron in Milpitas, when he decided to buy another ticket – yes, another ticket. Buxton already had a ticket for the February 19th draw, but the jackpot was so large he decided to test his luck again. This time, he bought a single Quick Pick® ticket and that $2 investment turned into $425 million.

“I sat in front of the computer for hours in disbelief, frequently checking and rechecking the numbers across multiple sources," Buxton said. "Once the initial shock passed I couldn’t sleep for days.”

Well, sir, we're all very happy for you. We really are.
