Johnny Manziel Indicted By Dallas County Grand Jury: Media Reports

The embattled QB faces up to one year in jail and $4,000 fine if convicted.

AUSTIN, TX -- Quarterback Johnny Manziel has been indicted by a Dallas County grand jury on a misdemeanor assault charge, according to media reports.

Both ABC News 8 and CBS Dallas/Fort Worth reported on the development, citing confidential sources. A formal announcement on the charge is expected by law enforcement authorities on Monday.

The indictment stems from an incident in January when Manziel was accused of hitting an ex-girlfriend during an altercation in Dallas.

The former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, was granted a temporary restraining order after that incident that bars Manziel from seeing her for two years. She claimed the 23-year-old quarterback hit her hard to the point she temporarily lost hearing in one ear.

Manziel, the former Cleveland Browns quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner at Texas A&M, could face a year in jail and a $4,000 fine for the assault charge.

The indictment comes just a week after the embattled Manziel vowed to clean up his act.

"I'm hoping to take care of the issues in front of me right now, so I can focus on what I have to do if I want to play in 2016," he said in a statement last Tuesday. "I also continue to be thankful to those who really know me and support me."

After two years with the team, Manziel was cut by the Cleveland Browns last month for his headline-grabbing activities off the field fueled by alcohol and partying. Previously, Manziel entered rehab for his issues with alcohol.
