Move Aims To Promote Diversity In Austin Tech Industry

Startup Diversity and Inclusion Pledge effort aims tech players to take at least 10 percent of pitch meetings to underrepresented groups.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — A move is afoot to compel the Austin tech industry to report their outreach to promote diversity and pledge to allot 10 percent of pitch meetings from underrepresented groups, including minorities, women and the LGBT community.

The Austin Business Journal reports the effort is being spearheaded by Stephen Straus, a former general partner for Austin Ventures. Dubbed The Startup Diversity and Inclusion Pledge, the initiative calls for tech industry players to take at least 10 percent of their pitch meetings to the aforementioned underrepresented groups.

The initiative is off to a good start, the business publication reports. Among those signing up for the pledge are: Active Capital, Capital Factory, Divinc, Moonshots Capital, Next Coast Ventures, Silverston Partners, Techstars Austin, True Wealth Ventures and others.
