Typhoon Texas Slated To Open For Summer Season
Mere hours after the governor allowed further business reopening, officials of the water park revealed details ahead of its Friday opening.
PFLUGERVILLE, TX — Mere hours after the governor allowed for the reopening of water parks across the state, officials of Typhoon Texas revealed details about the site's reopening on Friday.
The aquatic park featuring high-speed tube slides, free-fall body slides, lazy river and a wave pool described as "Texas-sized" is slated to kick off its 2020 summer season, officials said in an emailed advisory. In preparation, officials described a new online reservation system designed to manage crowd size to ensure physical distancing and occupancy limites amid the coronavirus.
Once guests purchase a summer pass at TyphoonTexas.com, they are required to make an advanced reservation while at the website to ensure their spot in the socially distanced park, officials said. Guests choose a date for their visit, along with an arrival time and size of their party. Upon arrival, guests can choose their socially distanced seating area within the park. Walk-up sales and entry are not available, officials added.

Simplified Ticketing
Also new this year, the water park has introduced simplified ticketing enabling guests to purchase a day ticket for $39.99 per person and get the rest of the summer free with unlimited visits to the park (reservations required), officials added.
Known for its attention to cleanliness, the family water park has added hand sanitation stations in restrooms, locker areas, dressing rooms, event spaces and at its food and beverage outlets, according to the advisory. Decals indicate where guests can maintain social distance while in line for attractions and at food and beverage outlets, officials added.
Other safety measures
Typhoon Texas officials outlined other steps being taken ahead of the opening. Among them:
- Restrooms will close every hour for cleaning and disinfecting.
- Loungers, cabanas and seating areas will be cleaned and disinfected once a group leaves.
- The water park’s filtration system reduces impurities to one micron, far below traditional pool filters that remove to 20-40 microns.
- Pool chemicals are electronically monitored on a real-time basis with manual testing conducted at least every hour for each attraction.
- Pools and attractions are filtered every hour, except the lazy river and wave pool which are filtered in under two hours. State code requires a turnover under six hours in most public swimming pools.
- Guests can use cashless pay wristbands to minimize contact when purchasing food, beverages and retail items.
Typhoon Texas officials cited data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention yielding no evidence the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through water in pools — provided proper operation and maintenance take place.
