List of every polling site, plus information about acceptable forms of identification and how to check wait times at the various locations.

AUSTIN, TEXAS — Election Day is right around the corner when registered voters will cast their ballots in one of the most consequential contests in recent memory.

Yet the first step in voting is knowing where one's polling location is located. Throughout Austin, there will be numerous polling sites to accommodate voters. Click here to find Election Day polling sites by precinct: Austin voting locations.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Records were broken in terms of people voting during the early period, so you might expect crowds on Nov. 6. To check wait times, click here. However, the Travis County Clerk notes: "While the map is updated every five minutes, that doesn't necessarily mean that every polling location reports voting activity every five minutes. Each location does, however, report every thirty minutes. There are usually changes to the map with every five-minute update."

There have been recent changes to the state's former Voter ID law that was considered one of the most draconian in the entire country. An amplified array of acceptable identification forms came by virtue of a court order on Aug. 10, 2016. If a voter is not able to obtain one of the seven forms of approved photo ID, the voter may vote by (1) signing a declaration at the polls explaining why the voter is unable to obtain one of the seven forms of approved photo ID, AND (2) providing one of various forms of supporting documentation.

Seven approved Forms of Photo ID

  • Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
  • Texas Election Identification Certificate (EIC) issued by DPS.
  • Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS.
  • Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC) issued by DPS.
  • U.S. Military ID Card containing the person’s photograph.
  • U.S. Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph.
  • U.S. Passport.

Supporting documentation can be:

  • Valid Voter Registration Certificate.
  • Certified Birth Certificate (must be an original).
  • Copy of or original current utility bill.
  • Copy of or original bank statement.
  • Copy of or original government check.
  • Copy of or original paycheck.
  • Copy of or original government document with your name and an address (original required if it contains a photograph).
