Travis County Sheriff's Deputies Make Arrest Three Weeks After Victim's Death [UPDATED]

Sheriff's office had launched a manhunt for Damon Danniel Fowler in connection to death of Kennie Wayne Crockett last month.


UPDATE: Travis County Sheriff's Office officials have arrested a suspect wanted in connection to a shooting death last month.

Damon Danniel Fowler, 37, was arrested Friday in connection with the shooting death of KIennie Wayne Crockett on Aug. 20, TCSO officials said. A manhunt for Fowler has been underway for nearly three weeks until police caught up with the suspect.

Fowler was arrested without incident, and is currently booked at the Travis County Jail, officials said.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- The Travis County Sheriff's Office continues to search for one of two suspects wanted in connection with a shooting death earlier this month.

Law enforcement officials continue to search for Damon Danniel Fowler, 37, wanted for murder in the shooting death of Kennie Wayne Crockett on Aug. 20, according to the TCSO.
The suspect is 6' tall and weighs about 165 lbs.

Crockett, 24, was shot just last Saturday at the Eagle's Landing Apartments at 8000 Decker Lane. According to a TCSO news advisory, the vehicle in which Crockett was a passenger was fired upon -- hitting Crockett and the driver.

A second suspect was previously arrested in connection with the shooting.

The TCSO released a photo of Fowler in the hopes someone might recognize him and alert them as to his whereabouts. Those with information are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (512) 472-8477.

EAST AUSTIN, TX -- The Travis County Sheriff's Office on Monday identified the man fatally shot in East Austin over the weekend, and revealed an arrest has been made.

Kennie Wayne Crockett, 24, was shot on Saturday at the Eagle's Landing Apartments at 8000 Decker Lane. According to a TCSO news advisory, the vehicle in which Crockett was a passenger was fired upon -- hitting Crockett and the driver.

Officials said the wounded drive traveled to a nearby Exxon convenience store at Decker and Loyola lanes, calling 911 and asking for assistance. Deputies responding to the call started performing CPR on Crockett but he died at the scene.

Donald Ray Perkins, 50 subsequently was arrested and charged with murder, a 1st degree felony, on Sunday. Additionally, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Damon Daniel Fowler, 37, also for the offense of murder, officials said.

The sheriff's office noted that Fowler is still at large. TCSO urges anyone with information related to his whereabouts notify Crime Stoppers at 512- 472-8477.

The incident represents the fourth shooting in East Austin in two months -- including two other resulting in fatalities:

  • On Aug. 11, at about 9:3o p.m., police responded to the 1800 block of Elmira Road after reports of a shooting. Once on scene, police found two victims of apparent gunshot wounds. One of them, 44-year-old Ashton Dominick Collins, died later in the hospital.
  • On June 16, Gerald Leron Williams, 23, was found dead along the 5800 block of Sweeney Circle after a report of a shooting shortly after 3 a.m. Police continue to search for a suspect.
  • On June 15, Maria Ferrer-Mena, a woman in her 30s, was identified as the victim of a fatal shooting incident. Police were called to the 5800 block of Wellington Drive where they found her outside her apartment, already dead.
