📰 News we're reading

• Waller County Judg pushes back on Abbott's property tax message, points to costs imposed by state (coveringkaty.com) — Waller County Judge Trey Duhon, speaking from Hempstead, is challenging Gov. Greg Abbott's property tax message by stressing how state-required services push costs onto local taxpayers. He explains that unfunded mandates like indigent defense strain Waller County's budget, and warns that tighter state limits on county revenue or debt could hinder fast-growing communities' ability to fund courts, jails, roads, and other essential services.
