2018 Texas Primary Election: Houston's Congressional Seats

HOUSTON TX — The first political primary of the 2018 midterm election cycle happened in the Lone Star State, and it was a wild and wooly affair that a left a lot of unanswered questions in the minds of many, and opened the door to a few runoff elections for Democrats and Republicans.
The eyes of America were on Texas with many wondering if it would stay red, or begin to shift toward a lovely shade of blue as a many Democrats have predicted since 2012.
Most watched the senate race where Republican incumbent Ted Cruz held off four opponents and won statewide with 87 percent of the votes, and will face Democrat Beto O'Rourke who won 59 percent.

But there were other races that also drew national attention.
One of the most closely watched congressional elections in Texas was the District 2 congressional race to replace the retiring Ted Poe.

The race drew nine Republicans and five Democrats into the fray.
When the dust settled, it was Kevin Roberts winning 33 percent of the ballots, and retired Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw winning 27 percent in the Republican field.
For the Democrats, the clear winner was Todd Litton, who won 53 percent of the ballots.
In District 7, incumbent John Culberson ran away with the election, winning 76 percent of the ballots defeating John Zeigler who won 22 percent.
He will face either Lizzie Pannill Fletcher or Laura Moser, who were the top vote getters for the Democrats.
In District 10, Republican Michael McCaul easily won with 85 percent of the ballots going his way, to just 15 percent for John Cook.
McCaul will likely face off against either Tawana Walter-Cadien who received 25 percent of the ballots, or Tami Walker who came in second with 23 percent.
In another contested race, District 22 voters Republican incumbent Pete Olson easily defeated three Republican challengers, winning 83 percent of the ballots.
Democrats vying for the District 22 seat will face a runoff between Sri Preston Kulkarni who won for the Democrats with 28 percent, and Letitia Plummer who received 20 percent of the ballots.
All runoff elections will be held May 22.
