Amazon Opens Houston’s First Fulfillment Center

800 new Amazon employees started new positions Monday, and there are plans to add more for the holiday rush

HOUSTON, TX — More than 800 brand new employees strolled the orange carpet Monday as they were welcomed to their new jobs at Houston’s new Amazon robotics fulfillment center.

Amazon currently operates fived fulfillment centers in Texas, which employ more than 10,000 Texans, with plans to open other fulfillment centers in the state.

The newest fulfillment center, the first in the Houston area, is approximately 855,000 square-feet and will employee as many as 1,500 full time employees before the end of 2017, KPRC reported.

Amazon announce their plans in July 2016 to build the new robotics fulfillment center for the inside the Pinto Business Park in Spring, and that the new facility would create at least 1,000 jobs along the growing Interstate 45 corridor, which has already drawn a new campus for Exxon Mobile, and residential and commercial growth from the Springwoods Development..

“We welcome the continued expansion by Amazon in Harris County and the creation of 1,000 new quality jobs,” Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle said in a statement. “In addition to the positive economic impact it has made across the state, Amazon is a strong corporate partner that is deeply involved in local communities. We look forward to working together to grow our region’s economy and provide jobs to area residents.”

Full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k) and company stock awards, starting on day one.

Amazon has several fulfillment locations in Texas, including Coppell, Dallas, Haslet, Fort Worth, Irving, Schertz, San Antonio and San Marcos.
