The 38-year-old must also pay about $2.2 million in restitution and will serve three years of supervised release, after admitting he created a fake company to collect kickbacks from the loans.
• Houston man, 19, killed after Honda crosses center line in Winkler County (star-telegram.com) — A 19-year-old Houston man was killed Thursday evening when his Honda Accord crossed the center line on State Highway 18 in Winkler County and hit a tractor-trailer head-on. State troopers say the crash, which happened around 5:30 p.m. near mile marker 336, remains under investigation, and no further details about contributing factors have been released.
• Texas officials are cracking down on 'illegal birth tourism.' Here's what that means. (wfaa.com) — Texas officials have shut down a Houston-area postpartum care center they accuse of helping foreign mothers mislead immigration officials so they can give birth in Texas, part of a broader state crackdown on so-called birth tourism.
