Elsa leads families on tour of new YES Prep elementary classroom
Parents have until Feb. 10 to sign up for YES Prep Public Schools' lottery
As an important deadline approaches, Houston families exploring school options for their children joined Disney’s Frozen star Elsa for a VIP tour of one of Houston’s newest elementary classrooms.
The deadline for families to sign up for the YES Prep Public Schools lottery is Feb. 10. The public charter school system now serving grades 6-12 plans to open its first elementary schools in time for the 2020-21 school year, giving Houston families more options for their children’s K-12 education.
YES Prep invited families with children heading into Kindergarten through second grades to a special event Saturday at YES Prep Hobby, where kids enjoyed hot cocoa and story time with Elsa and Kristoff while their parents learned more about the schools.

YES Prep officials said their first two elementary schools—feeding into A-rated YES Prep Southeast and YES Prep North Central—will serve students in kindergarten through second grade, with pre-K to fifth-grade levels added in following years. YES Prep plans to open 10 elementary schools to serve 10,000 Houston children in pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade for a total of 25,000 students by 2025.
YES Prep schools are open and tuition-free with no special requirements for admittance, but seats are in high demand. A random, automated lottery is used to objectively fill limited classroom space. Learn more about the lottery, open through Feb. 10 to grades K-2 and 6-12, at www.yesprep.org.
