George H.W. Bush's Stellar Sock Game Through The Years

Politics aside, no other U.S. president has ever worn more creative or colorful socks while in and out of the White House.

HOUSTON, TX -- Every U.S. president has that special something that sets them apart and humanizes them. President Bill Clinton had his saxophone, Ronald Reagan had his sweatpants, and George H.W. Bush had a bottomless drawer filled with colorful socks. Bush, who died Friday at the age of 94, once wrote in a 2014 email, "I'm a self-proclaimed sock man. The louder, the brighter, the crazier the pattern - the better."

Some of Bush's most notable sock moments include a pair he wore featuring his likeness as he sat in a cart on the sidelines of an NFL game in Dec. 2013 and a pair of candy-striped ones he wore in July that same year during a visit to the White House's East Room.

In April this year, Bush wore a pair of book-themed socks to the funeral for his wife Barbara. The former first lady started the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy to help promote universal literacy. Check out some more of Bush's sock selections below.
