March is National Reading Month, and Harmony School of Innovation-Sugar Land is proud to celebrate one of its very own student authors.

16-year-old junior Suheyla Altunkopru has published her first children’s book, A Brave Heart, a heartfelt story created to encourage children facing medical challenges. The book shares an uplifting message that bravery comes from within, even during life’s most difficult moments.

A Brave Heart follows Lola, a young girl preparing for her first heart procedure. With the support of her family, her favorite teddy bear and caring medical professionals, Lola begins to see the hospital not as a place of fear, but as one of comfort and healing. As the story unfolds, Lola’s nervousness turns into confidence and pride, offering young readers reassurance that courage can shine through even in uncertain situations.

The story is especially meaningful for Altunkopru. Inspired by her own experience undergoing three heart surgeries, she wrote the book to provide hope and encouragement to children navigating similar journeys.

This National Reading Month, HSI-Sugar Land celebrates Altunkopru’s accomplishment and the powerful reminder that student voices can inspire and uplift others.
