Hurricane Harvey: Watches And Warnings For The Gulf Coast As Harvey Closes In On Texas

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 2 a.m. for 23 Gulf Coast counties.

GALVESTON, TX — The National Weather Services has issued a tornado watch for residents living in counties along the Texas Gulf Coast until 2 a.m. Saturday, which are likely to be extended as Harvey moves ashore.

Those affected Texas Counties are:
Austin; Brazoria; Brazos; Burleson; Chambers; Colorado; Fort Bend; Galveston; Grimes; Harris; Houston; Jackson; Liberty; Madison; Matagorda; Montgomery; Polk; San Jacinto; Trinity; Walker; Waller; Washington; Wharton.

A Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for Austin, Colorado, Fort Bend, Liberty, Waller, and Wharton, while a Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Warning are in effect for Jackson and Matagorda.

Hurricane Harvey was upgraded to a category 3 storm Friday afternoon, and is slowly making its way to the Texas coast.

The storm is expected to make landfall at about 7 p.m. CT, bringing between 15-30 inches of rain until Tuesday, and winds that could gust up to 60 miles per hour in some areas, KHOU reported.

Currently, the storm is located about 90 miles from Port O’Connor, and about 180 miles from the Galveston, and has a maximum sustained wind of 120 miles per hour.
