IM Houston Expands Meals on Wheels Program to Serve Nearly 1,000 Additional Seniors

IM Houston (IM) announced today that it will significantly expand its Meals on Wheels (MOW) program after being selected by the Harris County Area Agency on Aging to serve additional seniors in the community. The expansion will extend services into 17 additional zip codes south and southeast of downtown Houston, including the historic Third Ward, Sunnyside, and Magnolia Park communities.

Through this expansion, IM will begin serving approximately 950 existing Meals on Wheels recipients in these communities. Many of these older adults rely on nutritious meals and supportive services to remain healthy and independent at home. “Continuity of care is vital for seniors who depend on Meals on Wheels,” said IM Houston President and CEO Sheroo Mukhtiar. “We are honored to serve these neighborhoods and ensure that seniors continue to receive the nourishment, connection, and dignity they deserve.”

While government funding will cover most of the cost of this expansion, IM anticipates a $100,000 gap that must be filled through private support. Community contributions will also help IM provide new clients with supplemental services for the most vulnerable, including breakfast and weekend meals, as well as free pet food through the Animeals program for seniors with pets.
