Spiritual guru and author Marianne Williamson suspended her 2020 presidential campaign Friday, saying she did not want to make it tougher for a progressive to win. According to a post on her website, Williamson withdrew from the race now due to the upcoming caucus and primaries, stating she believed she would not "garner enough votes in the election to elevate her conversation any more than it is now."

In the post, she expressed gratitude toward those who supported her.

"The ideas we discussed are important, and I hope they’ll find seed in other ways and in other campaigns. ... We brought issues to the fore that I hope contributed to the campaign season. I remain as committed to them going forward as I was on the day we began," she said.

Williamson has barely registered in the polls and struggled in fundraising since launching her bid for president last January.

She laid off her entire staff from her campaign at the end of last year, but continued to appear at campaign events in Iowa and New Hampshire in recent weeks. Her decision leaves 13 candidates remaining in the primary.
