Snow Day: Houston Area Braces For Winter Flurries

UFOs: The appearance of snowflakes in Houston will likely be fleeting

HOUSTON, TX — The weather outside has been pretty frightful these last several days, and now forecasters are calling for the possibility of snow Thursday night and into Friday morning.

The Houston area has endured a cold soggy mess with temperatures in the low to mid 40s since Wednesday, when the first real cold front of the fall season pushed through southeast Texas.

Now weather experts are predicting some areas of Houston could see the winter wonder of snow, although it's more likely the precipitation could just be more rain, KPRC reported.

The last time the Houston area saw snow was in February 2010, when the Bayou City got little more than a slight dusting of the white stuff.

In 2008 and 2009, Houstonians got preludes to a white Christmas with accumulations of about an inch each time.

However, this wintery blast won’t be quite so significant, with only fleeting glimpses of actual snowflakes expected by Friday morning in areas north of Houston.

In fact, only a little accumulation is expected in areas south of Interstate 10, KTRK reported.

Which means there won’t be enough for an actual snowball, much less a snowman.

So, don’t call in sick.

Schools will likely remain open, traffic will be running as normal as Houston traffic can run, and you can look forward to a nice, warmer weekend.
