Tickled Pink Luncheon Raises $180K in Fight Against Breast Cancer

The inaugural event honoring prominent women in Houston raised funds for breast cancer research, education, and support services.

[Houston, TX] Tickled Pink, the American Cancer Society’s premier fundraising luncheon honoring prominent women in the Greater Houston area, raises $180,000 towards breast cancer research, education, and support services.

The inaugural event was held at River Oaks Country Club by co-chairs Leisa Holland-Nelson, Patti Murphy, Karen DeGeurin Remington, and Barbara Van Postman. The afternoon highlighted the incredible accomplishments by honoring powerful, impactful women contributing to the fight against breast cancer. The 2021 Honorees included: Kelli Cohen Fein, Adele Hartland, Cora Sue Mach, Kristina Somerville, and Elizabeth Stein. Keynote speaker Elin Hilderbrand, breast cancer survivor and author, shared her story of surviving cancer with strength and grace. Notable attendees included: Audrey and David Gow, Joanna and Brad Marks, Mary Ann McKeithan, Casey Curry, Scott Evans, Sidney Faust, Ellie Francisco, Shelby Kibodeaux and Bruce Padilla, and Joella Mach.

Proceeds from the event benefitted the American Cancer Society. “The American Cancer Society is the nation’s nonprofit leader in the breast cancer fight. We are putting 100+ years of cancer-fighting experience to work through investments in breast cancer research, ensuring greater access to quality care, influencing public policy, and providing patient support,” said Jenny Todd, Senior Director of Development for the American Cancer Society. “We’ve witnessed a 41% decline in the female breast cancer death rate, and as a recognized leader in breast cancer research, we have no intention of ever slowing down.”

The American Cancer Society is currently investing $69 million in breast cancer-specific research through 162 grants (as of March 2021). In addition, the American Cancer Society’s commitment to health equity includes a $48.6 million investment in research to help understand cancer inequalities and create strategies for overcoming them.
