🌱 Find Ukrainian Flags In Irving + Medical City Wins For Safety
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Irving.
Hello Irving. I'm Merlin Douglass and here's what you need to know to get your day started.
First, today's weather:
Sunny and bright. High 68 Low: 38
Here are the top five stories in Irving today:
- Symonds Flags and Poles had never made a Ukrainian flag before but something told inside sales manager Christina Ferrell that they might need a few. Ferrell was spot on and now they are selling more Ukrainian than Texas flags. Even better, the Irving company is donating the proceeds to humanitarian efforts to help the refugees from the war. (CBS)
- TxDOT will be closing several on-ramps and main lanes on State Highway 183 from Spur 482 and Maryland Drive overnight for improvements through Friday, March 25. The work is part of a $301 million Irving interchange project. The closures will take place overnight for the most part and roads will reopen at 5 a.m. For more details go here.
- Delwig, a leading real estate company in the southeast, expanded its holdings to Texas with a recent purchase. The 11 buildings, known collectively as the Royal Tech Business Park, are located in Las Colinas and total approximately 622,000 square feet of facilities with a 9.2-acre vacant adjacent parcel. Current notable tenants include Wells Fargo Bank and TekSystems Global Services. Delwig says they plan to make numerous capital improvements to the property. (Rejournals)
- Irving's own Centenary lacrosse team, known as The Gents, lost their match Tuesday to the Kalamazoo Hornets, 27-11. It was the first time the two teams have played each other. The match took place at the University of Dallas. The Gents remain on the road and will play Anderson University on Friday in Anderson, Indiana. (Gocentenary)
- Medical City Las Colinas has been recognized as one of the top 10% short term acute care hospitals by Healthgrades, a leading marketplace connecting patients and providers. The hospital was awarded a 2022 Patient Safety Award for their record on four key in-hospital care criteria. Medical City Las Colinas is a full service acute care facility licensed for 100 beds. - If trivia is more your game, how about Trivia Night at Spirit Grille? Here's your chance to show just how many obscure facts you can pull out at a moment's notice. The folks at Spirit Grille, 4030 N. MacArthur Boulevard have a trivia contest night every Thursday. Join them at 7 p.m. Beverages and food available.
From my notebook:
- Citizens at Last -The Women's Suffrage Movement in Texas documents through a collection of photos and documents the decades long fight for voting rights for women in Texas. Passage of the 19th amendment in 1920 didn't guarantee suffrage for every woman. Women of color wouldn't see the same civic enfranchisement for another 50 years. The show is presented at the Irving Archives and Museum, 801 W. Irving Boulevard and it's open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you wait until Saturday, admission is free for non-members.
- Spring Volleyball leagues for grades 6 through 8 are forming now through March 26. Team practices begin April 4 with games beginning April 18. The cost is $45 per student. Enroll online or at any recreation center.
- Reddy Vineyards is showing off their Texas wine in connection with Lamberti's Ristoranti March 29 at 6:30 p.m. A five course dinner paired with appropriate Texas wines is $79.99 per person plus tax and gratuity, and advance registration is recommended as seating is limited. Purchase tickets here.
